Who is eligible to file an Insurance claim under the Defense Base Act and Terrorist Victims Act?

The Defense Base Act covers the following employment activities:

  • Working for private employers on U.S. military bases outside of the U.S.
  • Working on public work contracts with any U.S. government agency.
  • Working on contracts approved and funded by the U.S. government.
  • Working for American employers providing welfare outside of the U.S.
  • Working for the U.S. embassy or consulate.

If any one of the above criteria is met, all employees engaged in such employment, regardless of nationality, are covered under the Act.

Who is eligible for Terrorists Victim Act compensation?

The U.S. Victims of State Sponsored Terrorism Fund covers the following individuals who are injured or killed in an act of terrorism:

  • Israel conflict 10/7/23
  • Houthi attacks in Jordan
  • Any Iraq terrorist attacks in Iraq 2003-2011

(Other acts of terrorism are NOT covered)

What injuries are covered?

The DBA and Terrorists Victims Act covers different types of injuries and wrongful deaths that can happen while working with the U.S. government overseas. Injuries include (but are not limited to):

  • Physical injuries to back, neck, shoulders, arms, chest, carpal tunnel, hips, knees and or legs
  • TBI or loss of hearing
  • Exposure to burn pits, pollutants, and unsanitary areas or conditions
  • Cancer, pulmonary injuries, hepatitis, bacterial infections, immune system disorders, and or long COVID effects
  • Mental trauma including PTSD, depression, anxiety, nightmares, insomnia, panic attacks, suicidal thoughts, and recurring flashbacks
  • Death (The family of the deceased people can get compensated too)
